The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the universal supply of fortified rice under all government food schemes until December 2028. This initiative, supported by 100% central funding amounting to ₹17,082 crore, aims to tackle nutritional deficiencies, particularly anemia. The Department of Food and Public Distribution highlighted that the Anemia Mukt Bharat campaign was launched in 2018, and a rice fortification pilot program began in 2019 to benefit the rice-consuming population of India.
