Namibia's first president Sam Nujoma passed away at the age of 95; he liberated Namibia from South African rule in 1990 and is regarded as the country's "Father of the Nation."
Nujoma was considered a charismatic and Marxist leader, a staunch opponent of Western countries, and a contemporary of other African freedom fighters like Nelson Mandela and Robert Mugabe.
