The former Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had joined the board of advisers for the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, a Stockholm-based intergovernmental organisation of 34 member countries.
Mr. Arora, a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1980 batch, served as Chief Election Commissioner from December 2, 2018, to April 12, 2021, overseeing the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and 24 state assembly elections.
Mr. Arora has served as the 23rd Chief Election Commissioner of India.
The international organisation, whose aim is to encourage global democracy, now has 34 member countries, including large and small democracies from all continents, as well as older and newer democracies.
International IDEA was founded by India, which was one of the original members.
The institute is supported by a 15-member Board of Advisors, which includes notable figures from a variety of professions.
