  • M Pavri, the former director of the National Institute of Virology in Pune, died at the age of 94.
  • M Pavri was the NIV's first female director. She was in charge of this position from 1978 to 1988.
  • She helped lay the groundwork for modern arbovirus clinical and epidemiological research in the country.
  • She was also an expert in a number of virology diagnostic methods.
  • She was a member of the Cabinet's Scientific Committee as well as the World AIDS Foundation.
  • She spent a lot of time researching how the Hepatitis A, B, and E viruses spread and how to diagnose deadly gastrointestinal sickness in infants.
