  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated India's first bio-bitumen based national highway section on NH-44 at Mansar in Nagpur.
  • This section has been developed with lignin-based bio-bitumen technology.
  • Using lignin as a permanent binder is an important step for India, which reduces bitumen shortages and dependence on imports.
  • This innovation generates revenue for bio-refineries, reduces the problem of stubble burning, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70 percent compared to fossil-based bitumen.
