  • A female cheetah from South Africa, named Daksha, died in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park on 09 May 2023.
  • The wounds found on 'Daksha' seemed to have been caused by a violent interaction with a male cheetah during the courtship/mating attempt.
  • This marks the third cheetah death in the park within a month and a half. One of the Namibian cheetahs, Sasha, died due to a kidney-related ailment on March 27, and another cheetah, Uday, from South Africa, died on April 13.
  • The cheetah project was reviewed by a team of experts, including from South Africa, on April 30.
  • A total of 20 cheetahs were moved to Kuno National Park in September and February in the initial phase of a plan to revive the species that disappeared from the country 70 years ago.
