  • The Union Cabinet has announced to ban electric detonators from April 1, 2025.
  • After this ban, manufacturing, trade and storage of electric detonators will be banned.
  • This ban has been imposed in view of security concerns and public safety.
  • The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has issued a notification in this regard.
  • Electric detonators are devices used to initiate or trigger explosives for a variety of applications including mining, construction, excavation, and demolition.
  • These are known as primary explosives.
  • These trigger the main explosives.
