  • The Supersonic Missile Assisted Torpedo (SMART) device was successfully test-fired from Wheeler Island by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • The standoff torpedo delivery system is next-generation missile-based technology.
  • The SMART system will assist India in improving its anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
  • The missile is launched from a ground mobile launcher and has a range of capabilities.
  • This was the third in the series of indigenous stand-off weapons to be tested in recent times, after the Long-Range Bomb and Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW), further strengthening the arsenal of the Indian Air Force.
  • The missile is outfitted with a cutting-edge millimetre wave (MMW) seeker that enables high precision strikes from a safe distance.
