The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a portable Sea Water Desalination System (SWaDeS) to provide safe drinking water to soldiers deployed in remote, coastal and high-altitude areas. Developed by the Defence Laboratory, Jodhpur, the system can operate manually or through an engine-driven mode. It can purify seawater and saline inland water, supporting small military units in water-scarce and challenging operational environments.
Taiwan successfully conducted the first underwater sea trial of its indigenous submarine Narwhal to strengthen maritime deterrence.
