Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, a distinguished figure in public health and infectious diseases, has been selected to receive an honorary degree from McGill University in Canada.
At the age of 65, Dr. Swaminathan boasts a remarkable career spanning over 40 years, marked by significant contributions to clinical care and research.
Her tenure at the World Health Organization (WHO) commenced in 2017 when she assumed the role of Deputy Director-General (Programmes), later becoming the organization's inaugural Chief Scientist in March 2019.
Throughout her tenure as Chief Scientist, Dr. Swaminathan played a pivotal role, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she provided critical leadership and expertise.
