  • Dinesh Khara is currently the Chairman of State Bank of India, the country's largest public sector bank.
  • Recently, the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has extended his tenure.
  • Dinesh Khara will now remain the Chairman of SBI till August 2024.
  • Earlier, Dinesh Khara was to retire in October 2023.
  • Apart from this, the Central Government has also extended the tenure of SBI Managing Director Ashwini Tiwari by two years.
  • In the year 1921, 'Imperial Bank of India' was established by merging Bank of Calcutta, Bank of Bengal and Bank of Madras.
  • The Government of India nationalized the Imperial Bank of India with the enactment of the State Bank of India Act 1955 and renamed it State Bank of India.
