Dinesh Khara is currently the Chairman of State Bank of India, the country's largest public sector bank.
Recently, the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has extended his tenure.
Dinesh Khara will now remain the Chairman of SBI till August 2024.
Earlier, Dinesh Khara was to retire in October 2023.
Apart from this, the Central Government has also extended the tenure of SBI Managing Director Ashwini Tiwari by two years.
In the year 1921, 'Imperial Bank of India' was established by merging Bank of Calcutta, Bank of Bengal and Bank of Madras.
The Government of India nationalized the Imperial Bank of India with the enactment of the State Bank of India Act 1955 and renamed it State Bank of India.
