  • On December 14, 2024, Cyclone 'Chidó' struck the French island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean region, causing widespread devastation in the area. 
  • The cyclone brought a storm with winds reaching 200 kilometers per hour (124 miles per hour) to the majority of the poor residents in the French part of the island.
  • 'Chidó' also tore through the southwestern Indian Ocean, affecting nearby islands of Comoros and Madagascar.
