  • Chinese scientists have built an "artificial moon" research facility that will enable them to simulate low-gravity environments using magnetism.
  • Through this artificial moon, scientists will be able to investigate new instruments and prepare for future missions according to the conditions and environment of the atmosphere there.
  • The diameter of this artificial moon or 'mini moon' is about 2 feet. Its artificial surface is made up of rocks and dust that are as light as those on the Moon.
  • The idea to develop the facility has its roots in the Russian-born physicist Andre Geim’s experiments to levitate a frog with a magnet.
