  • The Centre on Tuesday raised the age limit of ombudsman of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) to 70 years from the existing 65 years.
  • The role of the Ombudsman is to receive, consider and facilitate the resolution of complaints or grievances which fall under the purview of PFRDA regulations.
  • As per the PFRDA (Redressal of Subscriber Grievance) Regulations 2015, the upper age limit was 65 years.
  • The gazette notification dated March 27 says that the PFRDA has amended that rule by changing the upper age limit for Ombudsman to 70 years.
  • An individual appointed as Ombudsman usually holds office for three years and is eligible for reappointment for another two years.
