The Centre has introduced a new numbering series, 160xxxxxxx, specifically for service and transactional calls to help citizens identify legitimate calls and reduce unsolicited telemarketing calls.
The new 160xxxxxxx series will be exclusively used by Principal Entities for service and transactional calls, differentiating them from promotional calls, which often use the 140xxxxxxx series.
This move by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) aims to help citizens manage their communication more effectively by clearly distinguishing legitimate service and transactional calls from promotional telemarketing calls.
