  • The Centre announced the constitution of a working group to base the base of the current series of Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from 2011-12 to 2022-23.
  • The central government has appointed Professor Ramesh Chand of the NITI Aayog as the chairman of this group. Apart from them, there are 17 other members in the group.
  • The group will review the commodity basket, price collection system and computational methodology, while recommending a roadmap for the transition from the WPI to the Producer Price Index (PPI).
