The Centre announced the constitution of a working group to base the base of the current series of Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from 2011-12 to 2022-23.
The central government has appointed Professor Ramesh Chand of the NITI Aayog as the chairman of this group. Apart from them, there are 17 other members in the group.
The group will review the commodity basket, price collection system and computational methodology, while recommending a roadmap for the transition from the WPI to the Producer Price Index (PPI).
