  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on 18 June 2024 appointed IAS officer Ashwani Kumar as the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
  • A 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer, Kumar is currently serving as Delhi Divisional Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Home).
  • He succeeds Gyanesh Bharti, a 1998-batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IAS officer, who was transferred to the post of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, in March before the recent Lok Sabha elections.
