"Manthan," India’s first crowdfunded movie, was showcased in the Cannes Classic category at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
The film, a 48-year-old classic, featured the legendary actress Smitha Patil and marked a significant moment in Indian cinema history by being highlighted at this prestigious event.
The screening saw notable personalities such as veteran Bollywood actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, Prateik Babbar (Smitha Patil's son), Nirmala Kurien (daughter of Dr. Verghese Kurien), and Amul MD Jayan Mehta gracing the red carpet.
Their presence highlighted the film's enduring legacy and its connection to the dairy cooperative movement in India.
Amul, the dairy giant associated with the film's production, shared pictures of the event on Instagram, emphasizing the representation of 3.6 million farmer producers.
Shyam Benegal's film 'Manthan' is set to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2024.
