  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the extension of the "ACROSS" umbrella scheme for the next five years for Rs 2,135 crore.
  • The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is implementing the Atmosphere & Climate Research-Modelling Observing Systems & Services (ACROSS) scheme through the India Meteorological Department, National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services.
  • The ACROSS scheme is related to the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) atmospheric science programmes and addresses various aspects of weather and climate services. Each of these aspects is incorporated as eight sub-schemes under the umbrella scheme "ACROSS" and is implemented in a coordinated manner by the four institutes mentioned above.
  • The Atmosphere & Climate Research-Modelling Observing Systems & Services (ACROSS) scheme includes the Ministry of Earth Sciences' atmospheric science programmes. 
  • The scheme's goal is to address various aspects of weather and climate services.
