  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the continuation and merger of three umbrella schemes into a unified central sector scheme called 'Vigyan Dhara,' with a proposed outlay of Rs. 10,579.84 crore for the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
  • 'Vigyan Dhara' focuses on three key components: Science and Technology (S&T) Institutional and Human Capacity Building, Research and Development, and Innovation, Technology Development and Deployment, aiming to strengthen the Science, Technology, and Innovation ecosystem in India.
  • The scheme seeks to enhance collaboration between academia, government, and industries, promote gender parity in S&T, and align with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 while supporting research areas such as sustainable energy, water, and international cooperation.
