The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the continuation and merger of three umbrella schemes into a unified central sector scheme called 'Vigyan Dhara,' with a proposed outlay of Rs. 10,579.84 crore for the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
'Vigyan Dhara' focuses on three key components: Science and Technology (S&T) Institutional and Human Capacity Building, Research and Development, and Innovation, Technology Development and Deployment, aiming to strengthen the Science, Technology, and Innovation ecosystem in India.
The scheme seeks to enhance collaboration between academia, government, and industries, promote gender parity in S&T, and align with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 while supporting research areas such as sustainable energy, water, and international cooperation.
