The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved four multi-tracking railway projects in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, covering 18 districts and adding approximately 894 km to the Indian Railways network. The projects—Wardha-Bhusawal 3rd & 4th line (314 km), Gondia-Dongargarh 4th line (84 km), Vadodara-Ratlam 3rd & 4th line (259 km) and Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina 4th line (237 km), carry an estimated cost of ₹24,634 crore and are expected to be completed by 2030-31. Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the multi-tracking initiatives will also reduce logistics costs, lower oil imports by 28 crore litres, cut 139 crore kg of CO₂ emissions, and support regional development and employment opportunities.
