South Africa became the first African nation to lead the G20, taking over the presidency from Brazil at the closing ceremony of the 2024 summit in Rio de Janeiro.
The Brazilian president emphasized progress in ethno-racial equality, women's empowerment, renewable energy and sustainability, as well as action for Africa and improving access to water and sanitation.
