President Droupadi Murmu on 22 August 2024 conferred Govindrajan Padmanabhan, former director of the Indian Institute of Science, with Vigyan Ratna Puraskar, India’s most prestigious science award.
Padamanbhan, who is a renowned biochemist, has become the first recipient of the award which was given to him at a ceremony held at the Ganatantra Mandapam in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar has replaced the country's previous science awards.
