BBVA and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) issued a US$15 million first tranche of the world's first biodiversity bond, aiming for a total of US$70 million to fund projects focused on reforestation, natural forest regeneration, climate-smart agriculture, and wildlife habitat restoration.
BBVA Colombia acts as the issuing bank while IFC serves as structurer and investor, providing advisory services to establish eligibility criteria and reporting indicators, and enhancing technical capabilities within BBVA to promote biodiversity financing opportunities in Colombia.
