  • The newly found object, named Alcyoneus, turns out to be the largest GRG known to date.
  • It has been named Alcyoneus, taken from the son of Ouranos, the Greek primordial god of the sky.
  • The size of the galaxy came into light after studying the massive plumes released by a supermassive black hole residing at the centre of this radio galaxy.
  • This galaxy has been discovered by the Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR), the world's largest radio telescope network.
