Astra is a beyond visual range air-to-air missile.
In October 2023, the Indian Air Force has signed an agreement with Bharat Dynamics Limited for the purchase of Astra missile.
Bharat Dynamics Limited will provide this Astra missile to the Indian Air Force by the end of this year.
Astra missile is an indigenous air-to-air missile.
It attacks beyond visual range.
The range of Astra missile is up to 160 km.
Its weapon carrying capacity is 16 kg.
Its special thing is that after releasing it towards the target, its direction can be changed in mid-air because it runs on fiber optic gyro best inertial navigation system.
Bharat Dynamics Limited was established in the year 1970.
Its headquarters is located in Hyderabad.
