  • Dr. Purnima Devi Barman, a wildlife biologist hailing from Assam, has been awarded her second Whitley Gold Award, commonly referred to as the Green Oscar, for her remarkable conservation efforts aimed at protecting the endangered Hargila or Greater Adjutant Stork and its wetland habitat.
  • The prestigious award ceremony took place at the Royal Geographical Society in London, United Kingdom, where Dr. Barman was presented with the trophy by charity patron Princess Anne – the Princess Royal, who is the sister of King Charles III. 
  • This recognition highlights Dr. Barman's significant contributions to wildlife conservation, particularly in safeguarding the unique avian species and its fragile ecosystem.
