  • Project Lion was started by the Central Government in the year 2021.
  • The project aims to address the threats faced by the Asiatic lion population in India.
  • Asiatic lions are found only in Gir National Park in Gujarat.
  • Barda Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Porbandar, Gujarat.
  • This sanctuary was established in the year 1979.
  • This sanctuary will be made the second habitat of Asiatic lions.
  • In this context, Gujarat Forest Department has approved the proposal.
  • Under Project Lion, several measures will be implemented in this sanctuary for lions including habitat improvement, disease control and strengthening the gene pool of the lion population.
