Project Lion was started by the Central Government in the year 2021.
The project aims to address the threats faced by the Asiatic lion population in India.
Asiatic lions are found only in Gir National Park in Gujarat.
Barda Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Porbandar, Gujarat.
This sanctuary was established in the year 1979.
This sanctuary will be made the second habitat of Asiatic lions.
In this context, Gujarat Forest Department has approved the proposal.
Under Project Lion, several measures will be implemented in this sanctuary for lions including habitat improvement, disease control and strengthening the gene pool of the lion population.
