The 9th edition of the Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival (PPHF) will be held from January 18-20, 2024.
The festival takes place at Seijosa in the Pakke Kessang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
PPHF is a state festival of Arunachal Pradesh with a primary focus on wildlife conservation.
Special emphasis is given to the conservation of hornbills, including Wreathed, Great Indian, Oriental Pied, and the endangered Rufous-necked species found in the Pakke Tiger Reserve (PTR).
The Nyishi community, the largest tribal group in Arunachal Pradesh, plays a significant role in hornbill conservation in PTR.
Formerly hunters of hornbills, the Nyishi have transformed into conservationists, contributing to the protection of these birds.
PPHF was declared a state festival by Chief Minister Pema Khandu in 2019.
