Argentina won the FIFA World Cup for the third time after beating defending champion France on penalties.
Substitute Gonzalo Montiel scored the decisive penalty after a dramatic match as Argentina won the shootout 4-2.
It had won two in 1978 and 1986 under Diego Maradona.
Messi achieved what Maradona did in 1986 and dominated a World Cup for Argentina.
Lionel Messi has won the Golden Ball, given to the best player of the tournament. He is now the only player in the world to have done so.
For 8 goals to his name, Kylian Mbappe has won the Golden Boot.
The next edition of the World Cup will be held in 2026 in three different countries, the United States, Canada and Mexico.
