Apurva Chandra, Union Health Secretary of India, has been appointed as the Chairperson of Committee A at the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA).
Committee A, chaired by India, is responsible for discussing key programmatic topics including universal health coverage, public health emergency preparedness, antimicrobial resistance, climate change, and sustainable financing for WHO.
India's Commitment to Global Health: In his address to the Assembly, Apurva Chandra highlighted India's successful management of the COVID-19 pandemic and its commitment to the global supply of medicines and health-related products.
He emphasized the importance of India's inclusive vision of "One World, One Family" in promoting global well-being, enabling universal health coverage, and achieving health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
