  • Amy Bauernschmidt, a Navy Captain, is the first woman in US Navy history to command a nuclear carrier.
  • Bornschmidt, who previously served as Abraham Lincoln's executive officer from 2016 to 2019, was given charge of the ship in August last year, succeeding Captain Walt Slaughter.
  • Bornschmidt previously served as the commanding officer of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 70 and Amphibious Transport Dock San Diego.
