Akkai Padmashali, a noted transgender rights activist from Karnataka, has made history as the first transgender member of a Supreme Court-appointed committee. Chaired by Justice Asha Menon, the panel will draft a national equal opportunity policy to ensure protection and inclusion of transgender persons. This marks a major step in representation and policymaking. Alongside activists Grace Banu and Vyjayanthi Mogli, Padmashali aims to advance Ambedkar’s vision of social justice and strengthen the implementation of trans rights laws across India.
