Admiral R Hari Kumar, 59, became the Indian Navy's 25th commander-in-chief, succeeding Admiral Karambir Singh, who retired after 41 years of military service.
Admiral Kumar served as the Western Naval Commander prior to becoming the country's 25th Chief of Naval Staff.
He is a gunnery specialist who has held key positions such as Western Fleet Fleet Operations Officer and Fleet Gunnery Officer, Executive Officer (EXO) of INS Vipul, Gunnery Officer (GO) of INS Ranjit, commissioning GO of INS Kuthar, and commissioning crew of INS Ranvir.
He has received several medals, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the AtiVishisht Seva Medal, and the Vishisht Seva Medal.
