Harshwanti Bisht, a well-known mountaineer from Uttarakhand, has been elected chairperson of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), the country's largest mountaineering institute.
Harshwanti is the first woman to be elected president of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which was founded sixty-three years ago. She received 60 votes out of 107 casts.
Bisht, who completed a mountaineering course at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi in 1975, was awarded the Arjuna award for scaling the Nanda Devi peak in 1981.
She was also a member of an Everest expedition crew in 1984.
