  • Recently the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released the figures of people dying in road accidents in the country.
  • According to these figures, 1.68 lakh people died in road accidents in the country in the year 2022.
  • Apart from this, 4.45 lakh people were injured.
  • The number of accidents in India has increased by about 12 percent compared to 2021.
  • While the death toll has increased by 9.4 percent.
  • About 75 percent of the accidents that occurred in the year 2022 were due to speeding.
  • After this, 6% of the deaths were attributed to driving on the wrong side.
  • Drunk driving and using a phone while driving caused 4% of the deaths.
  • National Highways and Expressways contribute 32.9% of the total accidents.
  • State highways contribute 23.1% of the total accidents.
  • Other roads contribute 43.9% of the total accidents.
