Kolkata, India’s football capital, has unveiled a spectacular 70-foot iron statue of Lionel Messi, created by the Sree Bhumi Sporting Club in Lake Town, South Dum Dum. Claimed to be the world’s largest statue of the Argentine legend, it depicts Messi lifting the FIFA World Cup trophy. Completed in just 40 days, the monument highlights Kolkata’s deep football heritage and global sporting spirit. Owing to security concerns, Messi will virtually inaugurate the statue on December 13, drawing massive excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
