The 22nd ASEAN-India Summit was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated virtually and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India in person. The summit’s theme was “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” East Timor was welcomed as ASEAN’s 11th member, and 2026 was declared the “ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation.” The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in security, trade, education, tourism, digitalization, green energy, and maritime partnerships. A Plan of Action for 2026–2030 and the modernization of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (AITIGA) were also adopted to further enhance ASEAN-India ties in the Indo-Pacific region.
