  • The Durand Cup 2023 football tournament will be held from August 3 to September 3.
  • The 132nd edition of the Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, will be played across four venues - Guwahati and Kokrajhar in Assam, Shillong in Meghalaya and Kolkata in West Bengal.
  • The Durand Cup 2023 will see 24 teams - four more than the previous edition - compete for the prestigious trophy.
  • All 12 Indian Super League (ISL) teams, including new entrants Roundglass Punjab FC, who got promoted to the ISL after winning the I-League 2022-23, will participate in the Durand Cup 2023.
  • Established in 1888, the Durand Cup has been dominated by the West Bengal clubs. 
  • It was named after Mortimer Durand, who was then the Foreign Secretary in charge of India.
  • Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are the joint most successful sides, each winning the Durand Cup 16 times.
  • Mohun Bagan (1963, 1964, 1965 and 1984, 1985, 1986) and East Bengal (1989, 1990, 1991) also hold the record for most consecutive wins - three.
  • Bengaluru FC are the defending Durand Cup champions. Sunil Chhetri and Co. defeated Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the final in Kolkata last year.
