The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is one of the highly sought-after examinations conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to recruit eligible candidates for the Flying Branch, Ground Duty (Technical) Branch, and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch. The AFCAT exam is conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force (IAF). Interested candidates who wish to join the Indian Air Force can apply online for the AFCAT exam.
The willing candidates who aspire to qualify for the AFCAT exam must perform well in every particular stage of the selection process. After qualifying for the AFCAT online examination, the shortlisted candidates are called for the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Testing.
The applicants who are applying for the AFCAT Ground Duty (Technical Branch) must appear for both the AFCAT online examination as well as the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT). Whereas, the candidates from Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch have to appear only for the AFCAT exam.
The selection process for the AFCAT will be of various stages. The first stage will be a written examination. Candidates who qualify at this stage will be called up for the SSB exam. The SSB exam will further consist of tests like Picture Perception and Discussion tests, Psychological tests, etc. Also, the candidates must be physically fit when they appear for SSB Interview as they will have to undergo various tests. Finally, the candidates will be tested for medical fitness. Those candidates who will complete all the stages and fall under the final merit list will be considered eligible for the post. The selection process will be as follows.

1. Nationality:
The candidate must be an Indian citizen as per the Citizenship Act, 1955.
2. Age Limit (As on 01 July 2026):
(i) Flying Branch (AFCAT & NCC Special Entry):
Age must be between 20 to 24 years.
Birth date must be between 02 July 2002 and 01 July 2006 (inclusive).
For CPL holders (DGCA, India): upper age relaxable up to 26 years.
Birth date for CPL holders: 02 July 2000 to 01 July 2006 (inclusive).
(ii) Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical):
Age must be between 20 to 26 years.
Birth date must be between 02 July 2000 and 01 July 2006 (inclusive).
3. Marital Status:
Candidate must be unmarried at the beginning of the course.
Marriage is not allowed during training.
If married during training, the candidate will be discharged and must repay training expenses.
4. Educational Qualifications:
(i) Flying Branch:
Must have 50% marks in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level.
Any one of the following qualifications:
Graduate degree (3 years) in any discipline with 60% marks.
BE/BTech (4 years) with 60% marks.
Cleared Section A & B of AMIE (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60% marks.
(ii) Ground Duty (Technical) Branch:
AE (L) – Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics):
50% marks in Physics and Maths at 10+2.
4-year Engineering/Technology degree or integrated PG.
AE (M) – Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical):
Same as above – 50% in Physics & Maths (10+2) + 4-year Engineering degree.
(iii) Ground Duty (Non-Technical):
Weapon Systems (WS):
50% marks in Physics and Maths at 10+2.
Either 3-year graduation with 60% marks or BE/BTech (4 years) with 60%.
Administration & Logistics:
Passed 10+2.
Graduation (3 years) in any discipline with 60% marks.
OR Section A & B of AMIE or Aeronautical Society of India with 60%.
Accounts Branch:
Passed 10+2.
Graduation with 60% marks in one of these:
B.Com (3 years)
BBA/BMS/BBS (Finance specialization)
Qualified CA/CMA/CS/CFA
B.Sc. (Finance specialization)
Examination fee for AFCAT Entry:
After filling in the online application form, the examination fee of ₹550/- + GST (non-refundable) for AFCAT entry (not applicable for NCC special entry) may be paid online through the ‘Make Payment’ step on the main menu of the online application.
No cash or cheque or demand draft (DD) will be accepted towards payment of examination fee.
The examination fee can be paid using credit/ debit cards/ net banking through the payment gateway.
