Summary

The UPTET 2026 is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the newly established Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in primary (Classes 1–5) and upper primary (Classes 6–8) schools across Uttar Pradesh. The official notification was released on March 20, 2026, with the online registration period scheduled from March 27 to April 26, 2026. The offline, OMR-based examinations are set to take place on July 2, 3, and 4, 2026. This year’s cycle introduces a mandatory One-Time Registration (OTR) process through the official UPESSC portal. Successful candidates will receive an eligibility certificate that now carries lifetime validity, allowing them to apply for future government teaching vacancies in the state.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Minimum qualification required in Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) for Class VI to VIII: Upper Primary Stage

    A graduate examination from a university or college established by law and recognised by UGC, as well as recognition from the NCTE after appearing in the final year of a two-year D.El.Ed (B.T.C.) from an institution affiliated with the Government of Uttar Pradesh. OR

    Graduation or Post-Graduation with at least of 50% marks from a legally established University/College recognised by the UGC and NCTE. Enrolled or graduated from a recognised institution's final year of a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed). OR

    Graduate or Masters's degree with at least 45 percent marks from a university/college established by law and recognised by UGC, and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) as issued by the NCTE (Recognition, Norms, and Actions) from time to time. The law was obtained in accordance with the regulations. OR

    Graduation or Post Graduation with at least 50 percent marks from a University/College established by law and recognised by UGC and NCTE. from an institution recognised by the RCI. (Special Education). OR

    Intermediate or its equivalent with at least 50% grades and NCTE/U.G.C. A 4-year B.A. from a recognised institution. B.Ed/B.A.Ed. Appeared or passed in the last year. OR

    Intermediate or its equivalent with at least 50% grades and NCTE/U.G.C. A 4-year B.Sc.Ed/B.Sc.B.Ed from a recognised university. Enrolled or passed in the last year. OR

    Intermediate or its equivalent with at least 50% grades and attending or appearing in the last year of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.L.Ed). OR

    Graduation with at least 50 percent grades from a University or College established by law and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and appearing or appearing in one year B.Ed (Special Education) recognised by the RCI.

    Age: The minimum age limit for candidates is indeed 18 years, and notably, there is no upper age limit specified for the eligibility test itself. This means that as long as you meet the required educational qualifications (such as a Bachelor’s degree and a professional teaching diploma like D.El.Ed or B.Ed), you can apply for the UPTET 2026.

     

    Exam Pattern

    Scheme of Examinations:

    There will be two UPTET papers.

    (ii) Paper-I is for someone who wants to be a teacher in classes I to V.

    (ii) Paper-II is for anyone who wants to be a teacher in classes VI to VIII.

    Note: A person who wishes to teach at both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII must take both exams (UPTET Paper I and Paper II).

    The selection process consists of a written entrance exam followed by the issuance of an eligibility certificate.

    Structure: Each paper consisting of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

    Duration: 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes) per paper.

    Marking Scheme: +1 mark for every correct answer. There is no negative marking.

    Qualifying Marks: * General/EWS: 60% (90/150 marks)

    OBC/SC/ST/PwD: 55% (82/150 marks).

    Application Fee

    Fee Payable by Candidates for UPTET Exam:

    Application Fee:

    For candidates belonging to the General, OBC, or EWS categories, the fee is ₹1,000 for a single paper (either Paper I or Paper II). 

    If you choose to appear for both papers, the fee is ₹2,000. 

    For SC and ST candidates, the fee is set at ₹500 for one paper and ₹1,000 for both. 

    Candidates in the Physically Handicapped (Divyang) category are required to pay ₹300 for a single paper and ₹600 for both. 

    All payments must be processed online via the official portal using Debit/Credit cards, Net Banking, or UPI before the deadline of April 26, 2026.

    How to Apply

    Applications must be filed online mode. For step-by-step instructions on completing the online application form are given below.

    For 2026, the UPESSC has introduced a One-Time Registration (OTR) system that must be completed before filling out the specific exam form.

    OTR Registration: Visit the official portal (likely otr.pariksha.nic.in or linked via upessc.up.gov.in) and complete your One-Time Registration to generate an OTR ID.

    Login: Use your OTR credentials to log in to the UPTET 2026 application link.

    Fill Application: Select the paper(s) you wish to appear for and verify your pre-filled details from the OTR.

    Upload Documents: Ensure your latest photograph and signature are uploaded according to the prescribed size.

    Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online using Debit/Credit card, Net Banking, or UPI.

    Print Confirmation: Download and print the final confirmation page for your records.
