  • Every year on October 29th, World Stroke Day is commemorated to make a commitment to minimise the worldwide burden of stroke, organise campaigns, and raise awareness at the global, regional, and local levels.
  • Stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is severely reduced, resulting in damage to brain tissue. It affects a person's appearance, speech, vision and physical functioning.
  • The Theme of World Stroke Day 2021 is ‘Minutes can save lives’
  • The annual event was started in 2006 by the World Stroke Organization (WSO) and the WSO declared stroke a public health emergency in 2010. 
  • WSO World Stroke Day on October 29 was established in 2004 at the World Stroke Congress in Vancouver, Canada.
