  • Every year, August 26 is celebrated as Women’s Day across the world.
  • On this day, in the year 1920, the United States passed the nineteenth amendment to permit women the legal right to vote.
  • Women around the world have always fought for the rights they deserve to bring the social changes required for a better future.
  • The 19th amendment was first introduced in the year 1878. Observing women’s role during World War 1, the rights of women acquired massive support.
  • This movement shook the entire world and created a buzz in countries like Finland, the United Kingdom and New Zealand regarding voting rights for women.
  • Women's Equality Day makes us realise the hurdles faced by women in the past and understand the role played by them in changing the world.
  • The theme of this day is ‘Hard Won Not Done’, which signifies that the gender equality struggle is not yet over.
