  • Pradeep Kumar Rawat, a senior diplomat, has been named India's new ambassador to China.
  • Pradeep Kumar Rawat, a 1990-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer who is recognized as an expert on China, will replace Vikram Misri.
  • His appointment comes amid a continuing border dispute in eastern Ladakh between the two countries.
  • Rawat, who is fluent in Mandarin, previously worked as a Joint Secretary in the MEA's East Asia division in Delhi from 2014 to 2017.
  • Between 2007 to 2009, Rawat served as Director (East Asia) at the East Asia division.
  • From September 2017 to December 2020, he was the Indian ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
