· Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, making her the first native woman from the state to head the bureaucracy.
· Suchiang, who had served in departments such as Home, Finance, Personnel, has become the first Khasi woman to hold the coveted position.
· The first woman chief secretary of Meghalaya was P.P. Trivedi in the late 80s.
