  • Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away on Sunday morning at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She was 92.
  • The Bharat Ratna awardee passed away at 8:12 a.m. after suffering a multiple-organ failure.
  • Mangeshkar was being treated there for the last 29 days after she had tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Lata Mangeshkar is lovingly referred to as the ‘Nightingale of India’. Queen of Melody was another nickname for her.
  • Lata Mangeshkar was one of the most noted, respected, and renowned playback singers in India. Known for her expansive vocal range, which spans over three octaves, and her unique voice for which she was called the Nightingale of Bollywood.
  • Lata Mangeshkar, a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, was an icon of Indian cinema, having sung playback for an extensive list of Hindi films; she also sang in several regional languages including Marathi and Bengali.
