International Ozone Day observed for the protection of the ozone layer

·         The International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (World Ozone Day) is observed annually on 16 September to spread awareness about the depletion of the ozone layer and find solutions to protect it.

·         The ozone layer, a delicate shield of gas, protects the Earth from the harmful part of the Sun's rays, thus helping to preserve life on the planet.

·         The theme of 2021 World Ozone Day is: 'Montreal Protocol - "Keeping us, our food and vaccines cool'".

·         In 1994, to commemorate the date of the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1994, the United Nations General Assembly declared 16 September as the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer.

v  The Montreal Protocol is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of several substances that are responsible for ozone depletion.
