International Equal Pay Day: 18 September

·         International Equal Pay Day is observed on 18 September.

·         The inaugural edition of this day was celebrated in the year 2020.

·         Its aim is to achieve equal pay for work of equal value and to break walls against all forms of discrimination, including discrimination against women and girls.

Important facts

History of the day

v  The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on November 15, 2019 to observe 18 September as International Equal Pay Day, which was introduced by the International Alliance for Equal Pay (EPIC).

v  The resolution was co-sponsored by a total of 105 member states.

v  As well as recognizing the contribution of workers' and employers' associations, and businesses, the resolution also acknowledged the work and contribution of EPIC to achieve equal pay.
