Indore named India’s cleanest city for fifth consecutive year

  • Indore, Madhya Pradesh has been declared as the cleanest city of India for the fifth consecutive year by the Center in the "Swachh Survekshan-2021" report.
  • Surat, Gujarat, and Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, were ranked second and third, respectively, in terms of cleanliness.
  • Among the 246 cities examined for rewards under the 'Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge,' Indore, Navi Mumbai, Nellore, and Dewas emerged as the best performers in various population categories.
  • The award for the top-performing state in this category went to Chhattisgarh.
  • Vita, Lonavala, and Sasvad, all from Maharashtra, took first, second, and third place in the population category "less than one lakh."
  • Varanasi emerged as the ‘Best Ganga Town’, while Ahmedabad Cantonment won the title of ‘India’s Cleanest Cantonment.
