India successfully test fires surface to surface ballistic missile, “Agni-5”

  • Adding to its military prowess, India successfully test-launched the Agni-5 surface-to-surface ballistic missile that can strike targets up to 5000 km with utmost accuracy.
  • The test took place at 7:50 pm from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. The first successful test-fire of the missile manufactured by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) was conducted in April 2012.
  • Agni 1 to 4 missiles have a range of 700 to 3500 kms, while Agni-5 can have a range of 5000 kms.
